Stories From the Lineup: Julian Costa

Julian has a recipe for garlic shrimp that is better than anyone on the island. He likes to mentor youth interested in cooking.

"Those waves definitely looked smaller from the shore..."

I was out there getting tossed around like laundry mid-cycle, just trying to survive the set.

Meanwhile, my friend—who doesn’t even surf—is on the beach, casually eating ice cream.

When I finally crawl back to shore, they go, “Why didn’t you catch more?” like it’s that easy.

To be fair, the waves did look smaller from the shore...
